Tourism In Pakistan
Pakistan with its rich culture, heritage, historic sites,
adventure places and natural beauty attracts tourists from all over the world.
The world's most famous travel guide book Lonely Planet has stated Pakistan as
being next big thing of tourism industry. One of the important reasons for
popularity of Pakistan tourism is that there are opportunities for all kinds of
tourism like adventure tourism, eco tourism, spiritual tourism, heritage
tourism and sports tourism. Following is a brief introduction to all these
types of tourism in Pakistan.
Adventure Tourism:
Pakistan with its unique mountains, valleys and glaciers is
a land of high adventure. From mountaineering eight-thousanders to rafting in
white waters, one can find all kind of adventure opportunities in Pakistan.
Four of world's fourteen highest peaks are located in Pakistan including K2,
world's second highest mountain. Four peaks of above 8000 meters, 64 peaks of
7000+ meters and hundreds between 6000 and 7000 meters. Some famous peaks among
tourists are K2 (8611 meters), Nanga Parbat (8126 meters) and Tirich Mir (7706
meters).
Adventure tourism in Pakistan is not only limited to
mountaineering, opportunities for adventure lovers include white water rafting,
wild boar hunting, trekking, jeep safaris, rock climbing, deep sea diving and
sky diving etc.
Fascinating Northern areas of Pakistan are enriched with
natural beauty and are a paradise for nature lovers. Spread over 72,496 square
kilometers, these areas attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world.
Kaghan Valley, Shogran, Skardu, Hunza, Chitral, Leepa Valley are places of
Pakistan blessed with undisturbed beauty of nature.
Spiritual Tourism:
The land where today Pakistan exists is a land which has
nourished many religious communities through ages. Spiritual tourism places for
Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs are found in many areas of country. Faisal
Mosque, Badshahi Mosque, Data Darbar are some religious places for Muslims.
Spiritual places for Buddhists are located in Taxila, Harappa and some other
areas of Punjab and Sindh. Spiritual places belong to Hindus and Sikhs can also
be found in many areas of country.
Heritage Tourism:
Pakistan is proud to have many heritage locations of great
spiritual importance. Popular heritage sights of Pakistan are Chukundi Tombs,
Shah Jahan's Mosque, Rawat Fort, Rohtas Fort, Darawar Fort, Indus Valley
Civilization, Taxila etc.
Sports Tourism:
Pakistan has many traditional sports for tourists to enjoy.
Many of these sports are unique or played in a unique way. Tourist from inside
and outside country love to enjoy these sports. Some of traditional sports are
Buzkashi, Polo, Kabadi, Kushti and Basant. There are also great opportunities

Hockey is Pakistan's National game. Pakistan remained world champion for hockey
and cricket.
